Frederik and Anne Nielsen
Both Frederik and Anne were born in Denmark but they met and married in Utah.
One of Frederik's first jobs was as a Sheep Herder. He caught Mountain Fever which caused him to become extremely sick. He temporarily lost all his hair, and both toe and fingernails. He stated that his recovery was very slow but he didn't give up!
He met and married the beautiful and charming Anne. Frederik & Anne were a fabulous team. Frederik continued to work hard and he saved his money to buy land.
HOMES
Frederik worked hard at the Brick Plant and soon, he had enough money to buy 10 acres in Granger. He quickly built a 1 room Adobe home with plaster inside and limestone/sand on the exterior. It had an attic, shanty, and cellar. Soon he built a barn.
He built his barn and sheds with a Pincher instead of a hammer because he couldn't afford a hammer. He didn't stop even though he didn't have the right tool for the job, He used what he had and build some wonderful things for his family.
Frederik kept buying acres of land around his parcel with every cent he could earn. Soon he had a large 30 acre farm for his family.
He worked hard to build a larger home for his family on his property. It was located at:
4406 S 3200 W

He always had a very productive farm. He even had apple, plum & peach trees. He would have up to 30 bushels of wheat on each acre. Often he leased local farms from neighbors that were not farming their land. He never stopped working!
Frederik was inspired to buy turkeys and raise them for a few years. It was very profitable and he was able to get fully out of debt and have money to spare.
He was extremely involved in matters that benefited the whole community. If there was a committee that needed a member Frederik would join in. He fought important matters that would benefit the community over the long haul.
He served an Animal Constable and had many stories of close calls with people that were unhappy that their dangerous or wayward animal were locked in the Nielsen barn. The animals were just being held awaiting the local law enforcement to rule on what should be done with the animal. He was always fair, even-tempered and understanding with people that wanted there animals returned.
Frederik served as the President of the Oquirrh National Farm Loan Association
He was the South Jordan Canal Superintendent for 30 years.
He was known for being an honest and a hard worker.
His life motto was " To Promote the General Welfare of Men".
He didn't back down when things seemed to be hard or even seemingly impossible.
