Minus 22 Degrees and 23 Inches of New Snow in 2 days!
The Winter of 1948-1949 was rough but January 23-24, 1949 was miserable!
The winds swept snow into huge snowdrifts. The roads were treacherous and the temperatures were dangerous. Most school children stayed home from school. Blowing snow made visibility rough and the fast paced snow falling along with the winds, made clearing pathways a full-time job. Many homes had snow almost up to the rooftops. Chicken coops, and small outbuildings were often covered.
