On display in the Trees of Diversity Exhibit is a tree decorated by Sheri Kimball Biesinger
It was common to jump a few ditches, walk through a muddy field barefoot in the rain, listen to crickets chirp, see a dozen wild pheasants scurry as you aproached, or catch a dozen carp & poly-wogs at Decker Lake on your way to buy a 10 cent cherry cream soda Slurpie at the Sev.
There was always a game going on at the Mosquito Diamonds, an wonderful all dirt field. Single or Double Prints was the question you were asked at the Market Street Fofo-Mat. Those old black and white comedies at Shakey’s Pizza or a Kay-SaDeA at Buzz & Caroline’s Scott’s Drive-in were always a treat along with a gallon of fresh rootbeer at the Frostop.
Growing up in West Valley City was special
We hope you enjoy looking at just a few of the pictures of the way it was a few decades ago. To see a complete history of West Valley please go to www.WestValleyCityHistory.com
On display in the Winter Scenes & Holiday Dreams Display is this beautiful painting by Harlan Bangerter
On the South East corner of 3200 w 3500 S this beautiful Church stood for many decades. It was more than a religious building, it is a place that the community met, danced, held community meetings.
In 1905 the Original Granger Ward was demolished by an explosion in the heating system. The community immediately said that they must build again. "Everything must be done better this time". The community busily recycled bricks and building materials from the original building. Many children remember being paid for collecting and scraping mortar off of the old bricks and stacking them for the New Building.
This painting was created by a local artist, Harlan Bangerter. It shows a busy winter morning as the community gathered at the Granger Wardhouse.
On display in the Winter Scenes & Holiday Dreams Display is this beautiful picture by Mark Inkley
In 1847, this spectacular wagon brought a family 1,300 miles to homestead and help create our wonderful West Valley City Utah. Mark & Chrissy Inkley have preserved this wagon and always have it decorated for the season at their West Valley City home.
