Guy Kimball...A Volunteer Extrodinaire
Guy Kimball first became part of the Granger community when he married Diane Wallace in 1950. The Wallace/Paxton family had been part of Granger since its beginning.
Guy & Diane were married for over 20 years and had 10 children. The Kimball children lived near Pioneer Elementary and attended Valley Jr.
After Guy & Diane divorced, Guy married a local Granger Utah Realtor named Carol Ballard Littlefield. Carol had a small family of 4 children and a small home in the Hillsdale Subdivision. After their marriage, Guy and his children moved into Carol’s small Granger home and together they finished raising the 14 children.
Guy was a wonderful family man, even tempered, loving and put his family 1st. But Guy was not only a wonderful family man; he was a terrific community volunteer!
He was appointed by Mayor Hank Price to be the cities Civil Service Commissioner and he held that office for over 27 years. This is a non-paid position and he was very dedicated to serve this area.
Guy served on many other volunteer positions. His goal was to help this area as much as he could.
Guy served on the cities Storm Drain Committee, Vice chair of Copperhills District, President of the HC Kimball Association, Commissioner and Vice Chair of the Boy Scouts of America in this area, a member of the Great SL Council of the Eagle Board of Review, President of the Granger Lions Club and Secretary and Treasurer of Granger-Hunter Community Council.
Guy was always a hard worker. He began working at the age of 12 at Cenikof Grocery Store in Kansas City then at the Western Union Telegraph office. He soon received training to be a Bookkeper. Guy was a much loved local accountant 43 years. He owned Custozied Bookkeeping Service and did Bookkeping for many Granger/Hunter businesses as well as thousands of yearly taxes for community residents. He and his wife Carol also owned Guy Kimball Realty.
Guy also was a volunteer in his Church. He was a Supervisor at the Jordan River Temple, SL Tabernacle Usher, 2nd Counselor in the Granger East Stake Presidency, 11 yrs Stake High counselor, 2nd Councilor in the Bishopric of Granger 6th Ward, Stake & Ward YM President, Stake Sunday School President and served a 2 yr Local Cambodian Branch Mission.
He also served as Elders quorum Presidency, MIA Superintendent, Explorer Advisor, Teacher & Deacon Quorum Advisor, Executive Secretary to Bishop, Vice Chair B-Regional Social Service, Assistant Stake clerk, Young Men’s President and LDS Counselor Utah Stake Prison.
Guy Kimball was a powerful force in the Granger-Hunter Community. He was asked dozens of times to run for Mayor of the city but he felt he was needed instead, to volunteer for the city, serve his church and his large family. He was an inspiration to so many, including me.
I love my father very much. He taught me to value work and volunteerism. He encouraged greatness in my family as well as the neighborhood and city. His legacy lives on in many.
Guy Kimball passed away in April 2009, he only 80 years. But those 80 years, were packed from start to finish with SERVICE!
