Did you know that Thomas S Monson spent countless hours in Granger?
Thomas S Monson enjoyed his Grandfather, Thomas Condie's Granger property. He loved to Pheasant Hunt, Duck Hunt Horseback ride and enjoy the wide open spaces of Granger with all of his cousins.
The Thomas Condie Family had a large acreage of land from just west of the present day Winder Dairy. Many of his Condie relatives still live on that same property and it is called Condie Lane.
He once wrote about his youth, "These were joyful days filled with continual family get together's,............with the Condie uncles (and cousins) out in Granger" he spent many of his weekends with his relatives on their farms in Granger. He talks about how his parents would come out to Granger on Sundays to retrieve him and how they would all enjoy homemade ice cream together. He often attended the Granger Ward on 3500 S 3200 W.
In the Swinton biography, Monson describes his childhood as “idyllic" with countless house spent fishing, hunting and exploring.
As Thomas S Monson grew, he still enjoyed coming to Granger Utah. He was seen at the Valley Fair Mall quite frequently as he bought chocolates from Mrs. Cavanaugh's or delicious Popcorn from The Popcorn Cottage to give his Aunt (Blanche Carter). Blanche that lived on LeeMaur Street, which is one block west of the Valley Fair Mall. He visited her Granger home almost weekly.
I appreciate all that Thomas S Monson has done in his lifetime. Weather you think of him as a Prophet, a humanitarian or just a good man, he lived a marvelous life and influenced many people. He was wholesome, kind and hardworking. He loved his family, church and community. And he, like you and I, spoke of Granger Utah fondly.
