Hans Peterson

1879-1955

Hans was born in Denmark. His parents and younger siblings  sailed to America in 1890. He was 11 yrs old and his parents didn’t have enough money to take Hans to America so he stayed in Denmark.

He noted that he worked for 3 years until his father was able to save the $50 for his ticket and fees for him to sail to America. .

He arrived in Hunter Utah when he was 15 yrs old and started working at Peter Larsen's farm in Hunter. He worked for a whole year and got 1 horse, room and board & clothing for that year of work.

His Father worked for Peter Larsen for a month and received a horse a pay. Hans gave his father his horse so that he could have a team.

He continued to work for Peter for 2 more years on the farm. He worked many other jobs such as a delivery boy for $3 in salt lake and then he came beck to Hunter to work for many different farmers earning 50-60 cents a day. After paying his room/board he usually had about $2 per month for spending money.

He noted that he enjoyed working for the John T Evans on the farm and Joseph Moesser.

As he grew he started working with the railroad and then at the Salt Works company making $4 /day .I worked various jobs.

It was time for him to come back home to Hunter. He went to visit Annie Nielson and decided to set their wedding date for June 1907.

Together they bought 30acres of land and built a 2 room house at 3800 S 7200 W. They made many additions to the home as our family grew.  He also bought 200 acres of dry-farm at Bacchus. The family really worked their land.

In 1931  brother George died leaving his inheritance. The family was able to built a new home at 5504 W 3500 S.

Hans was a kind man and he was one of the hardest workers around.
