Fred Todd
Fred Todd is the son of Stan & Myrl Todd. His parents owned and operated The S&M Skating rink.
Fred attended Monroe and Cyprus. He was a very mechanically chilld, by the time he gradated from school he had built over 150 model airplanes (many were motor controlled). He was an artist and specializes in Oil Paintings.
Fred began serving the Granger and surrounding areas in 1938. He built TWAMCO on 1970 W 3500 s. TWAMCO stands for Todd Welding And Machine Company. He initially specialized in farm equipment repairs and later heavy equipment trailers. He worked on trailers and trailer parts from all over the country. . He said “If they were put end to end, they would reach well over 2 miles”.
Fred was always very mechanical. He built a ice boat that could go 40 mph and a 7 foot airplane.
During the draft, local Granger farmers begged and protested his draft notice… they knew if Fred got drafted that they wouldn't be able to get their farm equipment fixed. Soon a letter came back and the Granger Farmers prevailed, Fred was not called to serve.
Fred was involved in the community and he was part owner of the Valley Loan Corp Bank and IDEALNational Insurance Co.
He loved religion, physics, math, history, archeology, astronomy, art and aviation. Newton, Galileo and Einstein were favorites of Fred. He read, studied and worked all the time.
His family was #1 and he worked hard to provide educational activities for them. He often said: “I have the best children on earth and I could say something good about each and every one of them."
He was blinded in his let eye by a piece of machinery but it didn't slow him down to much. He passed away at the age of 90 in 2006
