Manasseh & Mary Ann Smith
The Smith family wrote their history and this is what they said about Manasseh and Mary Ann's 53 acre plot in Granger Utah. "There was a big gravel bed was just east of their home. In the surrounding fields many beautiful wild flowers grew, such as pansies, Sego lilies, lady fingers, and buttercups. They would pick these flowers to their hearts content. Her parents raised their own meat, and cured it for keeping because they had no refrigeration or deep freezer in those days. They had a large fruit orchard of many varieties, strawberry beds, and raised their own grain, and vegetables of all kinds. They also had cows and had all the dairy products they needed. They only had to go to the store for a few items, such as sugar, and coal oil for their lamps. They had coal stoves to cook on as well as for warmth in their home. "
Wow...talk about being self sufficient...
