Chris Anastopulos "Anast" Sr.

Chris was born Christos Anastopulos in Greece in 1865. At the age of 42 he, his wife Constance and 2 yr old son George, immigrated to America. 

Soon they shortened the last name to Anast.

In 1913 he opened the first & only gas station west of State Street. It was located approx 1989 West 3500 South. He also sold coal at the gas station. 

3 years later Chris purchased 10 acres of land around the station for $1,200.

Soon Chris added groceries to the gas station

He was a driven man who didn't allow a language barrier to get in the way of providing excellent service to his customers.

Chris was a wonderful part of the community. He made the community better with his great business practices and his neighborly ways.

Chris died in 1937, his son George Anast took over operations of the family business and grew the service station into a barber shop, tavern, appliance store, and Granger Market grocery store.
