Mary Bell White
Children from the age of 6 to 21yrs of age attended the "Dewey School". It was also known as the District 46th School
The first school year was in 1884. At that time there were 65 students and the classroom was very crowded. When the community held a funeral or special meeting the school was closed for that event.
The first teacher was Mary Bell White. She was a young woman that was an entertainer and a clever reader. Mary Bell was born and raised in Millcreek and graduated The Brigham Young Academy graduating top of her class.
Mary Bell taught at the Disctrict46 school for over 10 years.
Mary Bell White married into polygamy. When the 1st wife died shortly after giving birth, she left her 14 children to the care of Mary Bell. Mary Bell had 9 children of her own. Daily she baked 10 loaves of bread for the large family.
