Dorwain Wahlquist
Dorwain has been an amazing part of the community for over 60 years.
He has deep roots in the Granger area - building his home in the early 1950's just west of the then "Pole Line Road" (2700 West).
He raised his children in the home and he is committed to both education and the arts within the city.
He was the catalyst for "WestFest" which is now an annual tradition in West Valley City.
He was an advocate for the West Valley Symphony; the Arts Council, and he bettered the city every chance he got.
We owe him much!
Dorwain is one of the hardest workers you will ever meet.
Through the years he has spent so much of his time volunteering in the community. He has served as an LDS Bishop (most remember his as the Singles Ward Bishop)for many years. He volunteered at a local Girls Camp in the canyons and spent thousands of hour doing any maintenance needed to kept the grounds safe.
He has volunteered and been on many committees hoping to better the community.
He has been featured in Utah Magazines and won many Blue Ribbons at the SL County Fair.
October 2013 at the GHS Homecoming Assembly. Dorwain Walquist donated one of his beautiful bowl to the School Alumni Room. He created the bowl from a Tree that Grew in front of the ORIGINAL Granger High school. The school appreciated the precious gift of the bowl from the last tree that stood at the original Granger High It is proudly displayed in the Alumni Room.
He also donated 6 other bowls for an auction that Benefited Granger High Scholarships. This auction made it possible for a $2,500 scholarship to be given to a deserving Senior.
During a Granger High Homecoming Assembly, Dorwain was recognized for his community activism and was given recognition for his contributions to the community and school. Dorwain's speech to the GHS student body consisted of "You didn't come here to see ME, you came to SEE the Homecoming Queen...I think it is about time to for HER". The audience went nuts with laughter/clapping....EPIC!!! He is always witty with a wonderful sense of humor.
Dorwain is such a marvelous gift to our community and is loved by all!
