John's Childhood Home

In the spring of 1900 John married Hannah, who was also from Hunter. They purchased 20 acres from John's father for $1,500 and built a wonderful home and farm to raise their 5 children on.

One day John was busy cutting wood and the ax slipped and cut his leg. Time passed and the leg would not heal and he was getting blood poisoning.  The doctor wanted to cut his leg off but Hannah wouldn't let that happen. She tended to John and nursed him back to health.  His leg grew strong and other than being a bit stiff, it never caused him pain.

Hanna died in 1960 and John in 1962 at the age of 84.

John was a hard worker who loved his wife, family and the community.
