Thelma Mackay was born in Taylorsville and lived at 2177 West 4700 South until she met and married her price Jim Thomas.

Thelma's Great Grandfather , Thomas Mackay crossed over the Jordan River January 1849 and built a mud Dugout for shelter from the winter at approx 3300 South 1400 West. Later he settled just a bit south in Taylorsville.

Thelma's grand father William  was very important in settling this area, getting water and creating a wonderful opportunities for the community.

Here is an interesting list of some of the land that Grandfather William  Mackay  split and divided and shared with his family.

Thelma's parents Vernal & Vera Bawden Mackay were a wonderful part of the Taylorsville/ Granger area. They raised Thelma at 2177 West 4700 South

Jim and Thelma were a wonderful team. They built some of our most treasured businesses and created powerful memories for all of us.

Thelma was beautiful inside and outside. She worked very hard and encouraged those that worked at her businesses to work equally hard. She instilled work ethic and the craving to create our own businesses. She was spectacular and it was heartbreaking to find out that she passed away December 2008.

There isn't anyone like Thelma. She is a woman that could take 2 identical businesses, just a few blocks from each other and have them both succeed. She was miraculous. She was industrious.  I know that when Thelma's Great Grandfather crossed the Jordan River on that frozen January 1849 he knew he was doing it for not only his own prosperity but to better the lives of his posterity. To give them all a place to grow and raise a family. I know he smiled down watching Thelma with such a passion for growing the area and create so many wonderful businesses.

Side-note:  Thelma's family consists not only of the Thomas & Mackay Family. It also encompasses the Bangerter Family, the Bowles, the McDouglas and the Chinn family.  Wow!!!
