Rubin and Ann Mackay Mcdougal

Ann Mackay was born & raised in the area.  Ann's Great Grandfather , Thomas Mackay crossed over the Jordan River January 1849 and built a mud Dugout for shelter from the winter at approx 3300 South 1400 West.

Ann's grand father William  was very important in settling this area, getting water and creating a wonderful opportunities for the community.

Ann's parents Vernal & Vera Bawden Mackay were a wonderful part of the area. They raised her at 2177 West 4700 South. Ann was loved by all. Everyone knew that Ann would be the 1st to greet you and make you feel comfortable. She was always generous and kind. She was one of the best Cholocate Dipper in the area. She spent much of her free time dipping chocolate for friends, neighbors and charity. She donated hundreds of pounds of her chocolate to places like The Festival of Trees.

Rubin was born in Wisconsin but moved to Utah. Several of the McDougal siblings moved to Utah, one of his brothers started McDougal Funeral Home on Redwood Road.

Rubin and Ann married in 1956 and together started and  ran many local businesses. They were a marvelous team.

One of their business was Western Auto Store/ Kearns Sales & Service. The 2nd business was the Kearns Frostop.

They also owned the Kearns Frostop  at 4049 W 4715 S?  Ann's sister Thelma Mackay Thomas owned the Granger Frostop's

Obituary of Ann Mackay McDougal

Beloved mother, grandmother, sweetheart, sister and friend, Ann Mackay McDougal, age 68, passed away July 14, 1997 after a brave fight with cancer.

Ann was born September 22, 1928 in Salt Lake City, Utah, daughter of Vernal and Vera Bawden Mackay. Married Rubin John McDougal, May 21, 1956 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple; he preceded her in death January 22, 1987. Active member of the LDS Church where she served in many callings including Relief Society President, Spiritual Living Teacher and Primary President. She will be most remembered and most beloved for her compassionate service, a calling she was given at birth and one she faithfully filled every day she lived here on earth. Ann served an honorable mission to the Northwestern Mission. She was owner and manager of the Kearns Frostop for years.Ann leaves a legacy of steadfast adherence to Christ's teaching to "...love one another..." which she manifested in many ways. She and her sweetheart, Rubin, raised four children and eternally influenced 14 special grandchildren. She understood what was important to others and served them with infinite patience, with a consistently cheerful, joyful and positive attitude and by setting an indisputable example of endurance and long suffering by facing life's challenges and heartaches without complaining. She possessed the many skills of a homemaker and mother, among them her ability to cook wonderful meals, make homemade candy and dip chocolates.

Ann is survived by four children, Rubin John (Linda) McDougal, St. Joseph, Michigan; Steven Ray (Sandy) McDougal, South Jordan; Sherri (Russell) Bethers, Murray; Sharla McDougal, West Valley City, Utah; 14 grandchildren, Rubin, Travis, Tara, Trevor, Bradley, Jeffrey, Julie, Kimberly, Gregory, Holly, Janae, Kaelyn, Erika and Amber; brothers and sisters, Margaret, Roscoe, Ralph, Thurman, Alvin, Nola and Thelma.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, 12 noon at the Taylorsville 4th Ward, 4320 South 3200 West. Friends may call Wednesday, 5-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road and Thursday, 11-11:40 at the church. Interment, Valley View Memorial Park.
