Max Leslie and The Merc

Max F Leslie is a young man fast becoming well-known in the Granger area because of his business and community activities.
A native of Indiana, Max is a businessman, working with the MERC Department Store chain in Idaho for many years prior to becoming manager of the chain’s new store in the Granger shopping Center.
“We opened the new store in Granger on August 1, 1957” Mr Leslie recalled. “I moved here from Idaho with my wife and boy at that time”.
Mr Leslie is store manager as well as being a part-owner in the business. He has been with Merc Department Stores since 1947.
“I don’t have much time for anything else but I do love bowling” he informed us. Mr Leslie bowls with the Granger Civic League at the Delton Lanes in Granger.
“Fishing and hunting are my main hobbies” he continued. “I go whenever I get the time”…which isn’t too often”
Born in Logansport, Indiana which is in the middle of the state, he is a son of Mr & Mrs MB Leslie. His parents are presently living in South Bend Indiana.
He worked for a photographer while attending Central high school and in 1939 received his diploma. After his graduation, he want to work for Bendix Aviation corp as an advertising photographer.

Max was then called into the Army and served 5 years before being discharged. He was stationed in the South Pacific most of the time during his tour od duty.
After returning to Indiana, he moved to Payette Idaho where he began his career with the Merc Department Store chain.
He and his wife, Geraldine reside at 3785 S 2759 W and are member of the Granger Christian Community Church. Max’s son Chuckie is 7yrs old and attends Granger elementary school.
