The Lehman Family was extra special

Know your Neighbor October 1958
We posted the picture last year, but I just located the article that went to the picture.
• A young man active in scouting, business and civic duties, an avid sportsman and hunter and a confirmed Grangerite is William F Lehman Jr.
• Bill lives with his wife and family at 3592 S 3200 W and has recently opened the New Granger Hardware on 3500 South.
• But to go back a few years, Bill was born and raised in Granger, as was his wife, the former Carol Orr. Carol is the daughter of Wallace W Orr, and bill’s parents are Mr & Mrs. William F Lehman Sr, all of Granger.
• “Families were few and far between out here when we were growing up”, bill says. “Carol and I both went to the old Monroe School right from 1st grade up to the 9th.”
• “We didn’t have much use for one another then”, carol commented. “But, when we left Monroe, Bill went to Granite and I went to Cyprus, and we both grew up”, she continued.
• The War was just beginning when Bill graduated from Granite High and he joined the Merchant Marines. He spent approximately 3 years in the service, 30 months on active duty in the Pacific theatre.
• Carol and Bill were married in April of 1945 and 4yrs later on the same date, they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple.
• “I worked at the Salt Lake hardware store for some time”, bill stated. He later worked at Kennecott. During his job with Kennecott, Bill managed the Golf Course and Pro Club at Magna.
• A sports enthusiast, bill loves fishing and hunting and also sponsors a bowling team at the NEW Deltons Lanes in Granger.
• He fishes and hunts like Mad, his wife says. “I get to go when the whole family goes…otherwise I stay home, she laughs”.
• “It’s rather hard to leave 4 children at home!” The Lehaman’s have a daughter and 3 sons, Susyn, their oldest, is 11 ½ and is in 6th grade at Granger Elementary School. She is active in her church and School. Currently she is studying piano and organ. Mrs Lehman is an accomplished pianist and teaches piano in her Spare Time.
• Their 3 boys are Bardley, 8, Kim, 6, and the baby, Jon 23 months. All active youngsters, they leave mother with little spare time. Carol does manage to find time to help with the artwork for the ward paper, make any and all posters needed for advertising for the ward, her husband’s store or her many friends.
• She is also Choral director in the Granger Stake Primary. Before she and Bill were married she worked as store display decorator at Keith O’ Brien.
• Bill had a dream of owning his own business which was realized in July of this year when he opened his hardware and sporting goods store. “He just loves it!”, his wife exclaimed. “He wants to sell sporting goods because he’s so interested in sports!”.
• “I guess for our age, we’ve lived here almost as long as anybody”, bill says, “Just think, we’ve lived right in the same neighborhood for 44 years!”. “ I can remember when the land where the new Granger High School stands was called “The Swamp”., he said. We used to hunt ducks down there, he concluded.
• Bill and Carol are both active in the LDS church where currently bill is on the Scouting Committee. He has worked in the MIA and Elder’s Quorums and was active in sports when he was a M-Man.
• Since so many new people have moved out here we really have a good chance to learn to know our neighbors, and I guess we’ll live in Granger for another 33 years!, So says the Lehman’s of Granger.
