The School Wagon
Frederick ElNathan Eldredge took the school children to school for many years.
He would pick the area children up in his wagon and drive them to Monroe School and then take them home every school day for many years.
In the Winter he used his sleigh to transport the children. He always heated up bricks or rocks and lay them on the sleigh floor so the children could stay warm. At one point he had about 50 children to transport.
He was paid $45 a month to supply rides and use his wagon. His pay increased to about $70 per month about 1915.
He tells the story" At one time the sleigh tipped over by Inkley's in a snowbank. The kids bawled but no one was hurt."
